Last week at work I was asked to look into SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services (SSRS).  It's powerful, quick, and looks nice when it gets the job done.  However, it is too rigid for some reports we need run.  First off, I need more than one report table on the results page.  SSRS only looks like it supports one report per page.  Not good.  Second, it seems like everything in the report must be generated by one SQL statement.  Fine, if you're a SQL guru.

I hate turning people away and saying, "That's probably not what you want," but it's true.  I don't like saying final things like that because it's exactly the same as quitting.  Those who know me know I will rack myself senseless before I ever quit on anything.

The next reporting tool I am to review is "LGX Report Studio" (web link not included).  I installed it and played around with it only twenty minutes before I decided to pause and update the dev log.  This software looks promising; I can at least say that it will do more than one report per page.  Basically, I looked at an example, looked at the way to do it in the GUI (they don't really let you do too much hands-on coding), and figured out how to write a few basic reports.  It looks like it uses form submittal to generate its reports.

Here's to finding an interesting reporting solution.
