Compatibility Limbo

The battle rages on (read: development slows due to) with compatibility issues.  During the Netscape-IE war, I was on the IE side.  Now that we have another one on our hands between the flexible and lax Internet Explorer and the standards-compliant Firefox, I am on the other side.  My development credo has become: Make it work in IE because most people use it, but if it doesn't work in Firefox, what's the point?

I wonder if every step of the way will be one battle after another to keep everything working the same between the two browsers.  Most of the compatibility problems revolve around what's called "Web 2.0".

In short, I'm using a huge amount of JavaScript on the client side to simulate an application installed on the user's system.  Here's an example: to add users to the "convention owner" list, all a user has to do is drag a user's name from one box to the other.  It's simple, interactive, and easy to do.  However, while it works well in IE, I can't get it to drag out of the first box in Firefox.  I have a good idea why, too; it's in a box and the box determines the bounds.  So, what am I going to do?  That has yet to be seen.

<sigh>  What to do, what to do?  I'll figure it out; I always have.
